Craft Paint
Foam Brush
Spray Paint Primer
Sandpaper or nail file
Twine (optional)

There are major benefits to the chalk-based paint.  First, it seems to stick to the glass much better than other paints.  And second, chalk-based paint distresses easily and smoothly, giving a natural, worn look to the jars.

1. Paint the outside of clean, empty mason jars with your choice of color. (Hint: put your hand in the jar and paint the rim first, then set the jar upside down to paint the rest.)

2. Next, paint 2 to 3 coats of you rchalk-based paint with a craft brush.  Make sure to let the paint dry completely in-between coats. I waited anywhere from 30 min – 1 hour in between coats.
3. Use sandpaper to distress. Start with a light hand.  You can always add some distressing but there’s no undoing it after the fact.
